In addition to owning a large share of the Japanese car market, it operates as a multinational corporation, with a large slice of the American and European markets.
The Toyota Motor Corporation started in 1933, although it was in 1934 that the company produced its first Type A Engine which in turn was an essential part of the Model A1 car and the G1 truck, both of which rolled off the line in 1935. The A1s sequel, the AA happened in 1936.

Since then, the company has grown at almost an exponential rate with a solid presence in the World Rally Championship (the Celica and Corolla models), and NASCARs Craftsman Truck Series (the Toyota Tundra truck).
Today, Toyota is famous for having assembly plants all over the world, including ones in the USA, Japan, Canada, and a variety of Asian, European, and South/Central American countries. Toyotas hybrids are much-praised for being affordable as well as environmentally conscious.
