46% struggling to adjust to life at today’s prices

28/07/2025

As 2025 brought another wave of soaring costs, more and more households are being stretched beyond their means.

Savings experts at price comparison site Quotezone surveyed 1000 people across the UK to find out how Brits are coping.

Nearly half, 46%, said they were now struggling to adjust to life at today’s prices – with 17% in an overdraft at some stage during the month and 47% with no additional spend left for savings.

The situation looks to be gathering momentum, with 75% saying they are worse off financially this year than last.

Every 4 minutes and 32 seconds, there’s a person declared insolvent or bankrupt in England and Wales in the three months leading to March 2025 – up by 2.1% from the previous year.*

With inflation still over the 2% target at 2.6%, goods that cost a fiver just 5 years ago, in 2020, now cost £6.26 – adding to the mounting pressure across household essentials.

And it’s not just grocery bills on the rise – the energy price cap is up by 6.4%, council tax hit a record high with a 5% increase and water bills are set to spike dramatically to 26% on average – making the majority of homes across Britain susceptible to the increasing financial stress.

Quotezone.co.uk has teamed up with The Money Charity, the UK’s financial capability charity, to help support workshops and webinars on money management cross the country, to help people learn more about their finances, tackle costs and find savings.

The Money Charity aim to empower people across the UK to develop the skills, knowledge, attitudes and behaviours to make the most of their money throughout their lives. By proactively providing education, information, advice and guidance to people of all ages and at all stages of life – helping them get to grips with their money and increase their Financial Wellbeing.

Michelle Highman, CEO from The Money Charity comments:  “We are delighted to partner with Quotezone on the delivery of our Money Workshops in schools, colleges and community groups across the UK. We are very thankful for their support which will allow us to reach more people with these vital messages.

The savings experts at Quotezone have also created a money health check calculator, to help households get a clearer understanding of their overall expenses and keep an eye on their budget.  The calculator also has money saving tips to help people reduce their bills and plan in longer term savings.

Greg Wilson, personal finance expert and CEO of Quotezone.co.uk said: “Households across the UK are going through an increasingly difficult time, as the cost of bills and essentials continue to escalate – with a worrying 75% feeling worse off this year.

“We were keen to put our money savings tips to good use and have decided to support a charity that are out in the community, actively helping people get a better understanding of their finances and the current pressures they’re experiencing, to help support a healthier, long-term approach to their budget.

“Through our partnership with The Money Charity, we hope to support financial education workshops across the country, for all ages, helping people find where they can make savings.

“We’ve also created a money health check calculator, designed to support financial awareness – helping households see clearly what they’re spending and where they could be saving, with expert tips on when, where and how to buy, to help cut out waste and put money back in the bank.

“Our price comparison site helps over 4 million people every year find savings.  It’s important for customers to shop around, never let annual bills automatically renew without renegotiating and hunt out competitive prices and products – being careful to keep an eye on the details and read through the specifics to make sure they get what they need, at a price that suits their budget.”

Launched in 2005, Quotezone.co.uk has grown to become one of the UK’s leading price comparison platforms, founded by entrepreneur Greg Wilson, and now spread across two European offices.

Quotezone.co.uk helps households across the UK compare and save on all sorts of everyday bills and essentials.
