The automobile company and later a brand name of Chrysler began operations as the Dodge brothers bicycle and machine factory in 1901. They manufactured bearings as well as other parts which were in high demand from the early automobile industry and they also help designed over parts for the early Oldsmobiles which would later become part of the competition with General Motors. In addition the Dodge brothers also helped to finance Henry Ford and start the Ford Motor Company. Daimler purchased Chrysler is a 2005 and now Dodge is part of the Daimler Chrysler Co. and his become known primarily for sales in trucks which account for 70% of the divisions overall sales. They are attempting to change this by adding new cars to their market for sale in the US and in Europe.

There are a limited number of vehicles sold in the UK that bear the Dodge brand name. The Dodge 10 CWT was manufactured as a van and also as a pickup from 1976 until 1984. The Dodge RAM 1500 SRT 10 was manufactured from 2005 until present-day time for sale in the UK.

Daimler Chrysler, as well as the other major manufacturers continue to battle with Japanese and other Asian imports for a market share in the UK for both cars as well as vans and lorries.
