Who is Greg Wilson?
Greg Wilson is the founder and CEO of Quotezone. He has built his 20+ years of experience as an insurance expert since founding our parent company, Seopa in 2003.
Under his innovative leadership, Quotezone launched its car insurance service in 2005, followed by the UK’s first-ever van insurance comparison system back in 2006. Since then, Quotezone has risen to become one of the UK’s leading car insurance comparison sites.
With a background in engineering, Greg’s analytical mindset and problem-solving approach have been key to Quotezone’s progress. Our business has expanded to now offer reliable and transparent comparisons of over 60 insurance and financial service products, so we can meet all our customers’ comparison needs in one place.
Greg is passionate about providing smart and reliable solutions, driving our team’s commitment to stay at the forefront of price comparison technology. These efforts are reflected in our security and privacy accreditations and industry awards. This focus on innovation and accountability means Quotezone is now trusted by over 4 million UK customers each year.
Day-to-day Greg works directly with motor insurers, telematics providers and specialist underwriters across the UK, building the panels that power Quotezone’s full motoring portfolio. That includes mainstream car, van and motorbike insurance alongside specialist verticals such as young driver telematics, convicted driver cover, modified and classic car insurance, and 4×4 underwriting. The goal is straightforward: make sure every UK driver, from a 17-year-old learner to a classic-car collector or a recently convicted driver, can find a competitive quote in one place.
As part of his role, Greg undertakes regular professional development and compliance training through accredited learning programmes delivered by Skillcast, covering key regulatory and industry topics including Consumer Duty, the FCA’s Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SM&CR), Conduct Risk, Financial Crime prevention, Data Protection, customer vulnerability, conflicts of interest and Treating Customers Fairly. This complements Greg’s existing CII, CISI and FCA Approved Person credentials, ensuring the comparison products he oversees keep pace with evolving FCA requirements and industry best practice.

Greg’s expert insights
On not auto-renewing motor insurance
“The single biggest mistake drivers make is auto-renewing their motor insurance without comparing. Even with FCA price-walking legislation in place, your insurer’s renewal quote may not be the most competitive price available to you. Spending fifteen minutes on a comparison site at every renewal is consistently one of the largest single savings a UK household can make on motor cover.”

On telematics for young drivers
“For drivers under 25, a black box or telematics policy is usually one of the fastest ways to bring premiums down. The insurer charges based on how and when you actually drive rather than averaging your age group. Good driving data such as gentle braking, sensible speeds and daytime driving can reduce premiums year-on-year, and most policies build in a renewal discount for clean driving.”

On declaring modifications honestly
“Any modification to the car, even cosmetic ones like alloy wheels or tinted windows, must be declared. Insurers underwrite the risk based on the vehicle as standard, so any undeclared change can void cover at claim time. The price difference for declaring a modification upfront is usually small; the price of an undeclared modification at claim is the whole claim.”

On insurance after a driving conviction
“A driving conviction does not mean you can’t get insurance, but it does mean you’ll usually need a specialist convicted driver insurer rather than a mainstream one. Mainstream insurers often decline the risk or load the premium heavily. Specialist brokers underwrite the conviction code, the length of the ban and the time elapsed differently, so comparing across specialists tends to make a much bigger difference than comparing on a mainstream panel.”
