IGI Insurance Company started business in 1975 focusing on landlord's property, touring caravans, pets, legal expenses insurance and extended warranty cover. IGI began providing Mechanical Breakdown Insurance in 1976. IGI also purchased a personal accident and health insurance business from the Mutual Insurance Company of Omaha. Their home insurance “Lets Protect” covers buildings, contents, and loss of rent for private dwellings let to tenants. Coverage includes: buildings, outbuildings, garages, greenhouses, terraces, patios, footpaths, drives, walls, gates, hedges and fences as well as landlord's fixtures and fittings therein; rent receivable whilst the private dwelling cannot be rented after a claim; landlords contents; landlords legal liability. Events such as fire, lightning, explosion, earthquake, riot, civil commotion, storm or flood, and much more.
Coverage of unoccupied buildings may also be covered with some conditions. Shops with apartments above them and businesses are covered, however there are exclusions that need to be reviewed. Finally IGI also will insure flats with multiple tenants, again with conditions and some exclusions.
