The areas in England with the highest number of speeding fines
England’s most prolific areas for speeding offences have been revealed and the area covered by Warwickshire Police has the highest number of offences per capita.
Data compiled by motoring experts at Quotezone reveals the equivalent of around four in ten people receive a speeding ticket in the county, with one particular section of the M6 being most notorious for catching motorists out.
This data was gathered through Freedom of Information (FOI) requests sent to each of the 39 territorial police forces across England, with 29 forces responding. This was then compiled by analysts at Quotezone to reveal the areas with the most offenders per capita, and which speed cameras in particular manage to catch the most lawbreakers.

How many speeding fines were issued in the UK?
In 2024, 205,522 drivers were found guilty of speeding offences in the UK,* which is a 1% decrease in reports compared to 2023.
The UK government reported motorways to have the highest offences in 2024, with 44% of cars breaking the speed limit. Cars travelling on 30mph roads follow closely behind, with 43% of drivers breaking these limits. Single carriageways that adhere to the national speed limit had the lowest offences, with only 9% reported in 2024.
Most concerning reports show that 39% of drivers who exceeded limits on motorways admitted that they broke the speed limit to drive in accordance with the speed of other drivers on the same road.
How many points do you get for speeding?
If you are found guilty of speeding, the minimum penalty is 3 points** added to your licence and a fine of £100. In some cases, if the police decide it’s appropriate, you may be able to attend a speed awareness course instead of receiving points, but that will depend on your offence and personal circumstances. Find out more about why you might be offered a speed awareness course here.
Do speeding tickets affect insurance?
Yes, receiving speeding tickets that result in points on your license will impact your insurance. Drivers with points can expect to face higher insurance costs as they will automatically be deemed a much higher risk to insure. The exact increase will depend on multiple factors, with the added challenge that not all insurers will cover drivers with penalty points. Learn more about how even 3 points can impact your insurance with our guide here.
Where can I check my driving licence for points?
Points are calculated over 3-year increments, so it can be easy to forget how many points you might have gained over this time. You can check your driving licence information on the gov.uk site.*** Here you can see how many points you might have on your licence. If your license was issued outside of England, Wales or Scotland, this service won’t be available to you.
Keep in mind, you can only gain 12 points over a 3-year period. Young drivers should be aware that tighter restrictions are applied within the first two years after passing their test.
