Prestige Park Home Insurance

Whether you’ve decided to downsize or have treated yourself to a luxury Prestige holiday lodge, it’s crucial to have cover you can rely on. To find a policy that gives you the protection and peace of mind you need, here’s what to think about when it comes to Prestige park home insurance.

What is a Prestige park home?

Prestige is one of Europe’s largest manufacturers of residential park homes and holiday lodges. Their extensive range of park homes cater to individuals, couples and families. You can also take a tour of a Prestige park home at their showground in Northamptonshire.

Does standard home insurance cover my Prestige park home?

A standard home insurance policy probably won’t be a suitable option to insure your Prestige park home, because insurers consider park homes to be a ‘non-standard’ risk which is down to the materials they’re built with – which includes timber, plasterboard and metal.

Their non-standard construction means that the risk and impact of damage is different compared to a bricks and mortar home. Insurers also need to factor in the cost of materials and specialist labour.

What features should Prestige park home insurance include?

Park home insurance can help to cover some of the financial burden if your park home or its contents are damaged or destroyed by an insured event. Policies class a number of incidents as insured events, including:

  • Damage caused by fire, flood, and storm damage.
  • Subsidence.
  • Theft and vandalism.

In most cases, buildings and contents cover for park homes is provided under one combined policy although separate policies are available (though your choice may be limited).

Some insurers will also include other features as standard which increases the number of incidents you’re covered for – such as:

  • Malicious damage
  • Accidental damage.
  • Loss of metred water.
  • Loss of freezer contents.
  • Loss of keys and replacement locks.
  • Home emergency cover.
What exclusions should I be aware of?

Exclusions are events not covered by your policy. If the reason for a claim is on the list of exclusions, your insurer can refuse to offer compensation. With that in mind, it’s crucial to familiarise yourself with the terms and conditions set out in your policy to avoid disappointment.

Insurers are responsible for setting their own exclusions, but they typically include:

  • Damage caused by wear and tear – most insurers won’t compensate you if items stop working because of age or through use.
  • Negligence – you’re highly unlikely to receive a payout for stolen belongings if doors and windows were left unlocked.
  • Damage caused by animals – this usually includes pets as well as vermin.
How much Prestige park home insurance do I need?

Park home insurance providers usually offer something called blanket insurance. This means they automatically set the level of cover so that you don’t have to calculate the cost of replacing your home or valuing your contents.

The level of cover available will vary by insurer but buildings cover ranges from between £300,000 – £600,000 and £40,000 – £75,000 for contents cover.

If you don’t think the levels on offer are enough, you can of course ask for them to be increased. Just remember that this is also likely to increase your premium.

How much is Prestige mobile home insurance?

To work out your premium, insurers have to calculate the risk and cost of a claim. To determine this, they’ll consider a number of factors, including:

  • The size and age of your park home – the more expensive or bigger your park home, the more you can expect to pay.
  • The park site you’re on – some insurers work with specific park sites and offer discounts to residents.
  • Optional extras – adding features to your policy will increase its cost.
  • Your claims history – recent claims can increase your premium.
  • Whether your park home is at risk of flood – living in a flood risk area can increase your premium.

It’s worth bearing in mind, that cheap policies could have a number of exclusions and might not include as many features as you’d like. This could make them poor value for money compared to expensive policies which could be offering more comprehensive coverage along with fewer exclusions.
