Mazda Motor Corporation operates in Hiroshima, Japan and as of 2005, the company was producing as many as 800,000 vehicles per year and sales are evenly divided between Japan, Europe, and North America.

Mazda Motor began as the Tokyo Cork Kogyo Co., Ltd, starting in Japan in 1920. The Ford Motor Company has owned 25% of Mazda since 1979, and increased its stake to a 33% controlling interest in 1996 when Mazda fell into financial crisis. Many Ford vehicles are actually re-branded Mazda vehicles.

Mazda is well known for the Wankel rotary engine which outperformed their piston-based competitors by a large margin, and Mazda made the most of the power plant by putting it in almost every product they sold, from the Rotary Pickup to the RX-7, and even the large Luce sedan. The company currently produces approximately 800,000 automobiles per year with sales spread across Japan, Europe and North America. Some of the other models produced by Mazda include the Miata/MX-5 sports car, the Mazda 6/Atenza, RX-8, and Mazda 3/Axela. Other models include Mazda2/Demio – Supermini car (Not sold in the USA); Mazda3/Axela – Compact car; Mazda5/Premacy – Compact MPV (future 2006 model); Mazda6/Atenza – Family sedan; MX-5 Miata/Roadster – sports convertible; RX-8 – 2+2 sports coupe; CX-7 – Crossover SUV; Premacy – Small minivan (Not sold in the USA); MPV – Full-size minivan; Tribute – Small SUV; Truck – compact pickup truck; E-Series – Commercial van (Not sold in the USA).

The Mazda Bongo is a van made by Mazda Motor Corp. of Japan. It has been exported as the Mazda E-Series and as the Ford Econovan since 1978. Mazda Bongo actually began production in 1966 in Japan as a small van and came in two versions, the F800 and the F1000. The Mazda Bongo has evolved over time has been re-branded as the Mazda Access in some markets. Engine sizes include a 1.8L and a 2.0L diesel engine. Bongo Friendee was introduced in 1995 by Mazda. Ford began selling the Bongo in the Japanese home market as the Ford Freda.

The Mazda Bongo Friendee van SGL seats eight passengers. It was never sold as a new vehicle in the UK, however it has become more popular and is being brought into the country as a used a vehicle. Many of these Mazda Bongo Friendee van SGL are imported with kitchen units already installed while others are imported for the purpose of converting them into camper vans.
