Mazda Insurance

Types of car insurance for a Mazda

As with all car makes and models, you’ll have three coverage levels to choose from when you’re insuring a Mazda: fully comprehensive, third-party, fire and theft, or third-party only insurance.  If you’re buying the Mazda from a dealership you may also want to look into Mazda drive-away insurance, which as the name suggests is a temporary insurance policy that’s intended to let you drive the car home.

Comprehensive car insurance for a Mazda

It won’t be much of a surprise to learn that fully comprehensive Mazda car insurance will give you the most comprehensive level of coverage for your car.

For that reason, this is the most popular coverage level for many drivers, even if it does occasionally cost a little more.

Third party only Mazda insurance

In the past drivers could save quite a bit on their Mazda insurance by opting for a third-party-only insurance policy. It offers a lot less coverage, which often results in cheaper premiums.

That’s not always the case anymore though. This type of policy was often chosen by young, higher-risk drivers. Meaning third-party-only insurance policies then had a higher risk of an insurance claim.

In many cases, comprehensive insurance is now just as cheap, or maybe just a few pounds more, than third-party only. So it would be a good idea to compare both.

Third party, theft and fire car insurance

This is the middle tier of protection. Third party, theft and fire insurance covers other road users while also paying out if your own car is ever stolen or damaged by fire.

Mazda drive away insurance

Mazda drive away insurance isn’t an annual policy. This type of policy is a form of temporary insurance that’s designed to insure you while you drive your new Mazda home from the dealership.

How can I get cheap Mazda insurance quotes?

If you’re looking for cheap Mazda insurance the key is to reduce your “riskiness” in the eyes of the insurer. There are a number of ways you can do that.

Give an accurate annual mileage

The higher your mileage, the higher your risk of an insurance claim. That’s why it’s important to give an accurate mileage estimate to the insurer – and to try to reduce the number of miles you drive if possible.

Improve your car’s security

Many Mazdas now come with car alarms and engine immobilisers preinstalled. But there are still one or two security upgrades you could consider.

For example, a vehicle tracker could reduce your premium by making it more likely your car will be recovered by the police if it’s stolen.  A few insurers may also offer a lower premium if you have a dashcam fitted, although that isn’t a universal rule so it’s worth double-checking.

Avoid making modifications

Modified cars have a higher risk of insurance claims. This means you’ll usually pay more for your Mazda insurance if the vehicle has any modifications.

Pay your premium annually

Monthly payments might be more convenient, but they’re also more expensive in the long run. When you pay annually you avoid the interest that is included when paying your insurance premium monthly

Increase the excess on your policy

It’s important to get the balance right here because you don’t want an excess that is so high you can’t afford the cost if you have to claim. But if you are able to agree to a slightly higher excess it could result in slightly lower premiums.

Choose appropriate coverage for your needs

There’s nothing wrong with adding optional extras to your Mazda car insurance if you’re sure they’re worth it. But if you are keen to reduce your quotes as much as possible then it’s worth cutting any unnecessary addons from your policy. For instance, if you’re looking for Mazda Bongo insurance you could opt for temporary van insurance if you only use it occasionally.

Shop around and compare Mazda insurance quotes

Comparing Mazda insurance quotes from a wide range of insurance companies is probably the single most effective way to find cheaper quotes, so it really does pay to shop around.

How much does specialist Mazda MX-5 insurance cost?

The MX-5 is a high performance sports car. So Mazda MX5 insurance is likely to cost quite a bit more than you’d pay to insure a compact Mazda2 city car or even the bigger Mazda3 family saloon. Mazda MX5 insurance for a 17 year old will likely need young driver insurance.  Exactly how much your MX5 insurance will cost will depend on a number of other risk factors besides the car’s make and model. These include your age, your location, your occupation, your driving record and your insurance claims history.  Often the fastest way to find out how much it will cost to insure a Mazda MX-5 is the compare quotes and get costs that are personalised to you.

Mazda car insurance groups

Mazda models fall into a wide range of different car insurance groups, ranging from the Mazda2 hybrid in group 13 to the Mazda CX60 SUV, which can go up to group 39 for some versions.   It’s important to note that insurance groupings change over time as new models are released and parts fluctuate in cost and availability. These are the current insurance groupings for Mazda models.

Mazda MX-5 insurance group

The MX5 ranges from insurance group 25 for versions with a 1.5 litre engine, to group 32 for versions with a 2.0 litre engine. MX models typically need 4×4 policies.

Mazda 2 insurance group

The Mazda 2 is Mazda’s smallest car with the smallest engine size, which is why this model ranges between insurance groups 13 and 15.

Mazda 3 insurance group

Some of the hatchback versions of the Mazda 3 fall as low as car insurance group 15, making them relatively cheap to insure. While Mazda 3s with bigger engines jump to insurance group 24.

Mazda 6 insurance group

The Mazda RX-8 ranges from group 27 to group 31.

What people have to say about us

Tried the others several times and some offering gimicky freebys that most people will never use. Tried Quotezone, they offered straight forward price comparisons, one of which I am now using.
