Peugeot 306 Insurance

The Peugeot 306 was launched way back in 1993 and stopped production in 2002 to be replaced by the Peugeot 307. It gained a solid reputation, sold well and came in petrol engine sizes ranging from 1.1litre, 1.4litre and 1.6litre, (the 1.1 was quickly dropped). It is also relatively cheap to insure.

Is the Peugeot 306 a reliable car?

Its 1.9litre diesel version was also well respected by motorists. Many of these popular family-minded cars, both hatchback and saloon, are still on the road and can be picked up very cheaply and come in both 3 and 5-door. Trim levels vary with the XT (GLX post-1997) having the highest specification of trim. Peugeot also made a “hot hatch” diesel D-turbo version and a petrol XSi version to add to its list. New petrol engines, the 1.8 and 2.0 were added in 1997 and the XSi was rebadged the GTi-6. All in all, not a bad motor leading it to feature in the Top 10 Best-selling Cars in Britain from 1994-98. But what about insuring one of these near-vintage workhorses?

What insurance groups do the Peugeot 306 models fall under in 2021?

Today, the petrol versions of the Peugeot range from Group 9 (1.4l), Group 11 (1.6l, 1.8l), Group 23 (2.0 CSi), through to Group 30 for the 2.0l Gti-6. For the diesel versions: 1.9D (Group 9), 1.9 Turbo Diesel and 2.0 HDi both Group 11). So in terms of cost, they range from very low to quite high. But the value of the car will be taken into consideration and will be reflected in the premium. As will the age/experience of the driver, what area the car will be registered, what the car will be used for, mileage and various other factors.

And what about safety?

Euro NCAP tested the 306 in 1996 and gave it three out of five stars for protection of the occupants. This was a decent result as the 1999 Ford Escort only achieved two stars.

How can I reduce the cost of my Peugeot insurance?

Like with all insurance policies, there are a number of ways to decrease your insurance premium outside of your driving history and location. Black box insurance is a popular option for young drivers. This device records how well and efficiently you drive and can reward you with a healthy chunk off your premium.

Can I make further savings?

Increasing your voluntary excess will also lighten the load in terms of expense. In addition, insurers will also provide more favourable quotes if you are able to park your car on a driveway or in a garage overnight. And dashcams are also worth noting and are easy to install.
