Holden began as a saddlery business in Adelaide, south Australia in 1856 and continued with this line of business until 1913 when they began manufacturing motorcycle bodies and sidecars. In 1924, they began producing car bodies for GM vehicles and have continued to expand into producing engines and cars in 1934.
