Ligier a former racing driver Guy Ligier created the French automobile maker with it’s first entry the Ligier JS 2 which was a sports car for the road powered by the same Maserati V6 engine as the Citroën SM. The Ligier factory also produced the final SM in Vichy. The firm suffered a blow during the energy crisis in 1973 and switched to producing microcars. Ligier is now owned by Piaggio.
