Renew Car Insurance – Compare Cheap Quotes
If you’re ready to renew your car insurance it would be a good idea to compare quotes from a wide range of different insurance providers, which should increase your odds of finding the right policy at the right price
The FCA has changed the rules around how insurance providers can calculate car insurance renewal quotes, but that doesn’t necessarily guarantee that the provider you took a policy out with last year will offer the cheapest quote to renew car insurance this year.
The new legislation is only intended to ensure existing customers aren’t charged more to renew car insurance than new customers would be charged for an equivalent policy by the same provider, so there’s still the possibility that other providers will be in a position to beat that provider’s renewal quote.
What factors will be used to calculate the quote when I renew a car insurance policy?
Insurance providers will take a wide range of risk factors into account when calculating your car insurance renewal quote, including:
- How old your car is
- Its make and model
- Where you usually park it when you’re not driving
- The vehicle’s insurance group
- Whether or not the car has been modified
- Whether or not it’s an import car
- The mileage on the clock
- Your estimated mileage for the next year
- Your location
- Your age and occupation
- How long you’ve held your licence
- Whether you have points on your licence
- Whether you have a No Claims Discount
Will my quote to renew my car insurance be the same as I paid last year?
No, not necessarily.
Even if you decide to stay with the same insurance provider as last year, if any of the risk factors mentioned above have changed since you took our last year’s policy (for instance, if you’ve changed careers or moved to another location, had your licence endorsed with penalty points or claimed on your insurance for a car accident of vehicle theft) then you can expect your car insurance renewal quote to change in line with those varying risk factors.
And even if none of your risk factors have changed it’s still possible your quote to renew your car insurance might vary a little, as your insurance provider’s insurance premium calculation might have changed to take into account rising overheads, changes to insurance premium tax etc.
Finally, if you switch to an entirely different insurance provider it’s possible your quote to renew your car insurance could be considerably different from last year – in fact, that’s one of the benefits of shopping around, you just might find a better car insurance deal with another provider!
*51% of consumers could save £490.26 on their Car Insurance. The saving was calculated by comparing the cheapest price found with the average of the next four cheapest prices quoted by insurance providers on Seopa Ltd’s insurance comparison website. This is based on representative cost savings from June 2023 data. The savings you could achieve are dependent on your individual circumstances and how you selected your current insurance supplier.
