Pathfinder Park Home Insurance

Protect your Pathfinder park home with the right insurance to provide peace of mind. To find a policy that suits your needs and your budget, here’s what to consider.

What is a Pathfinder park home?

Pathfinder have been designing and manufacturing park homes and holiday lodges for decades. The firm pride themselves on build quality and every mobile home is made to British Standard BS3632 which makes them suitable for all-year-round living.

Does standard home insurance cover my Pathfinder park home?

It’s unlikely that regular home insurance will cover your park home. This is because park homes are classed as ‘non-standard’ buildings by insurers as they’re built from materials like timber, plasterboard and metal instead of bricks and mortar.

Because of the way they’re built, park homes and traditional homes face different risks when it comes to damage – a fact that insurers need to consider when it comes to working out premiums. Insurers also have to consider the cost of repairing a park home which will include specialist labour and materials.

What features should insurance for my Pathfinder park home include?

Park home insurance compensates you if your residential park home or its contents are damaged or destroyed by an ‘insured event’, which typically include:

  • Damage caused by fire, flood, and storm damage.
  • Subsidence.
  • Theft and vandalism.

Most policies cover the building and your belongings under a single policy. Separate policies are available but bear in mind that your choice could be limited.

Insurers will also give you the option of adding other features to your policy although some will include them as standard – for instance:

  • Malicious damage
  • Accidental damage.
  • Loss of metred water.
  • Loss of freezer contents.
  • Loss of keys and replacement locks.
  • Home emergency cover.
What does Pathfinder insurance not cover?

Exclusions are events not covered by your insurance – in other words, they’re reasons why your insurer won’t pay out.
Insurers are responsible for setting their own exclusions so they can vary but usually include:

  • Damage caused by wear and tear – you’re unlikely to be compensated if an item stops working through age or use.
  • Negligence – insurers rarely pay out for stolen contents if windows and doors were left unlocked.
  • Damage caused by animals – this generally includes damage caused by both vermin and pets.
What level of insurance do I need for my Pathfinder park home?

The majority of residential park home and commercial park home insurance policies offer blanket insurance which means insurers automatically set the level of cover. This can be convenient as you won’t need to spend too much time working out the value of your belongings.

That said, it’s crucial to make sure the amounts offered will be enough to cover the cost of replacing your park home and contents if they were completely destroyed.

Insurers set their own level of cover, but they often range between £300,000 – £600,000 for buildings cover and £40,000 – £75,000 for contents cover.

If you have any particularly valuable items, you can of course ask to increase these amounts, but your premium is likely to rise as a result.

How much is Pathfinder mobile home insurance?

Park home insurance premiums depend on a number of factors so premiums will differ according to needs. To work out your premium, insurers will take into account:

  • The size and age of your park home – insurers need to consider the cost of repairing or replacing your home.
  • The park site you’re on – some insurers offer discounts to residents of certain park sites.
  • Any optional extras you choose – adding extras to your policy will increase your premium.
  • Your claims history – a recent claim can increase your premium.
  • Whether your park home is at risk of flood – homes in flood risk areas are more likely to attract higher premiums.

It goes without saying that when you compare policies, it’s well worth checking the features included. A cheap policy might look like a bargain, but it could come with a number of exclusions. Adding on extras could also bulk up the price considerably.

In contrast, an expensive policy may have fewer exclusions and include more features as standard – giving you better value for money overall.
