SAAB, after World War II, sought ways in which to diversify its business and started to manufacture Saab Automobiles in the late 1940s. Saab delivered its first automobile in 1947. General Motors bought half of Saab Automobile in 1990, and acquired the rest a decade later.
Current car models are the 9-3 and 9-5 and are manufactured in Trollhttan, Sweden and the Saab 9-2X manufactured in Japan. In March 2005, GM announced they would move the production of the next-generation Saab 9-3 from Trollhttan to their Opel plant in Rsselsheim, Germany.
