Infections Travel Insurance
It can be tempting to leave it to the last minute to book travel insurance, but it can be a good idea to take out cover in case anything prevents you from going away. When you take out insurance you must declare any existing medical conditions you may have, including minor or serious infections. Severe infections such as kidney infections may have required a stay in hospital, or you may have treated smaller infections with a course of antibiotics from your GP. Whatever the infection, if you have received treatment within the last 12 months then you must declare this.
If your infection has cleared up then there should be no reason to stop you from travelling and taking out travel insurance. However, if your infection flares up before you leave, or if you find it comes back when you’re away, then you may need travel insurance to cover all of your medical expenses. Insurance policies may also cover any additional expenses you incur if you have to stay in hospital when abroad, and can also pay to fly you home in a medical emergency.
The premium will depend on the type of infection you have, where it was and if you received any treatment for it. For example a skin or wound infection could be completely safe to travel with if it is resolved, but a simple ear infection could lead to problems on your flight or swimming. Taking the time to compare pre existing condition travel insurance for infections could save you money before you fly, as well as making sure that you’re completely covered when you’re away.
