Compare Energy Prices with Octopus Energy

A growing number of households in England, Scotland and Wales are switching from the ‘Big Six’ energy companies to one of the UK’s growing number of smaller energy firms, and since its launch five years ago Octopus Energy has been signing those customers up at an impressive rate to become one of the biggest energy suppliers outside the big six.

In fact, although it was only founded in 2015 Octopus Energy now boasts over 600,000 domestic gas and electricity customers.

Despite that impressive rate of growth, though, the company hasn’t let its commitment to customer service fall by the wayside – Octopus remains one of the most highly rated energy suppliers in the UK, with 91% of customers giving the company a five-star rating.

If you’re thinking of switching your supplier and would like to find out which energy company might offer you the best deal why not use our energy price comparison service now? It’s free to use, and you’re under no obligation to switch.

Is it true Octopus Energy has a specific tariff for electric car owners?

Yes, Octopus Energy launched ‘Octopus Go’ in 2018, an electricity tariff that is specifically designed for electric car owners.

Octopus Go offers customers electricity at a unit price of just 5p/kWh between the hours of 00:30 and 04:30 every night. That’s roughly half the price of most Economy 7 tariffs, and means electric car owners are able to charge their cars overnight for around a tenth of the cost of refuelling a regular car.

Does Octopus Energy supply business customers?

Yes, Octopus Energy is able to supply electricity to businesses throughout England, Scotland and Wales, and this electricity is 100% renewable.

The company is now able to supply gas to some business customers too, but this is location-dependent so you would need to check with Octopus if you’re thinking of switching your business gas supply to them.

Does Octopus Energy charge exit fees?

No, Octopus Energy doesn’t tie its customers into lengthy contracts, and therefore doesn’t charge any exit fees when one of those customers decides to switch to another supplier.

Does Octopus Energy support prepayment meters?

Yes, Octopus Energy supports traditional prepayment meters for both its electricity and gas supplies.

Does Octopus Energy support smart meters?

Octopus is currently developing its own smart meter rollout, but in the meantime the company is also able to support some smart meters installed by other suppliers if you’re switching to Octopus and have a smart meter installed.

Specifically, if you’re switching to Octopus from Utilita, Shell Energy, Ovo Energy, E.ON or Bristol Energy and you had a smart meter installed by one of those suppliers that was manufactured by a company called Secure then that meter should work with your Octopus Energy supply.

Does Octopus Energy support the Warm Home Discount?

Yes, Octopus Energy signed up for the Warm Home Discount in 2019, with the first discounts offered during winter 2019.
